We are not Junior Gods

The great genius of the biblical narrative stories of faith…starting with Abraham…is that they set forth a higher level for living…a higher standard…an entirely novel and different option upon which to pattern the purpose and direction of our lives…upon biblical faith as defined in Hebrews 11:1 and John 14:15-17.

When Jesus says from the cross: “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Jn. 23:34), at this most pivotal event in human history…we can at this point with confidence conclude that people simply do not understand what occurs above worldly conventional normalcy and thinking…on the higher segment of the vertical graph-line spectrum of goodness and light (1 Cor. 2:8)…where are found biblical narrative stories of faith.

The point here is that if we were perfect like God we would not need God.  If we were in actuality…divine, junior-grade gods…having the capacity to function independently with the gift of perfect foreknowledge…we would know our gifts, talents, and traits and thus be able to chart our own course through life without involving God…using the same qualities of courtesy, coordination, and thoughtfulness toward others that exists at the very top of the vertical spectrum line where absolute goodness and brilliant pure light resides.

God cannot create square circles, or married bachelors, or one-ended sticks.  It may also be an impossibility for God to create human beings having all of the divine attributes of being all-knowing, all-powerful, and the capacity to be everywhere.

But the next best thing would be human beings created in the image of God, having the free-will reasoning and moral capacity to understand and to experience love, truth, and justice…with the ability through faith to connect with the real God who does possess these divine traits of being all-knowing and all-powerful.

This might better help us to understand the importance of a journey of faith apprenticeship into the knowledge of good and evil…following Jesus Christ today…and why without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).

The formula for eternal life in harmony with God and each other (Jn. 15:17)…is not to make of ourselves something or somebody according to worldly conventional normalcy and thinking…but rather to pick our cross and to follow Jesus…to discover our destiny through our God-composed journey of faith life-script…written for us and for service to others…that resides higher up on the vertical graph-line spectrum of goodness and spiritual light…according to Paul’s inspired statement recorded in his letter to the Colossian Christians:

“If ye be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.  Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.  For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God” (Col. 3:13).
